SUPERVISION
My name is Nadia Proano, and I am a Registered Psychologist based in Edmonton, Alberta. I care deeply about supporting psychologists-in-training and early career psychologists in their professional growth and clinical development.
I offer personalized, internal supervision in the area of clinical/counselling psychology for Registered Provisional Psychologists. I also provide limited external supervision and professional consultation for both Registered Provisional Psychologists and Registered Psychologists, including those working in private practice, contracting with clinics, or employed in public-sector settings.
My supervision focus areas include neurodiversity affirming practice (particularly ADHD), sleep, and anxiety, and I welcome supervisees who are interested in developing thoughtful, ethical, and integrative clinical skills. If you are interested in exploring supervision or consultation with me, you are warmly encouraged to review the information below and complete the application form at the bottom of this page.

Philosophy of Supervision
I believe the supervisory relationship is a rich and essential part of professional development. Supervision is a specialized professional service that supports ethical, effective psychological care while fostering confidence, competence, reflective practice, and professional independence.
My approach to supervision is collaborative, supportive, and development‑focused, with a strong emphasis on building autonomy and clinical confidence over time. I value maintaining a relatively small footprint in the supervisee’s overall development, supporting growth toward independent, thoughtful decision‑making rather than dependence. I find supervision is most effective when supervisees are increasingly able to trust their clinical judgment while also feeling confident reaching out when consultation or support is needed.
The supervisees who tend to thrive in this model are those who are reflective, engaged, and willing to take initiative, comfortable working independently while also recognizing when collaboration, guidance, or ethical consultation is important. While I prioritize autonomy and independence, I also want to be clear: when support is needed, I am fully available and committed to being there. Supervision is a shared responsibility, and I value open communication, curiosity, and professional courage in asking for help when it matters most.
While supervisors and supervisees may at times hold differing clinical perspectives, supervision is most effective when it is reciprocal, each person brings valuable knowledge and insight to the process.
That said, as a supervisor, I share professional responsibility and potential liability for clients under supervision. In alignment with the College of Alberta Psychologists, I am jointly accountable for upholding the Code of Ethics for Psychologists and Standards of Practice. In situations involving ethical uncertainty or unresolved disagreement, I am committed to consultation with a supervision specialist to determine the most ethical and appropriate course of action.
Setting the Foundation
During the initial phase of supervision, we will take time to:
Review required CAP paperwork (i.e. Supervision Plan)
Discuss and finalize the supervision contract and agreement.
Clarify the evaluation process and make necessary adjustments
Establish structure, expectations, and learning goals for ongoing sessions
I believe evaluations should never come as a surprise, and supervisee feedback is welcomed and encouraged throughout the supervisory relationship.
Scheduling & Communication
Time and clarity are essential for effective supervision. If something feels misaligned or unclear at any point, I welcome open, respectful dialogue and commit to addressing concerns collaboratively.
As I maintain a full private practice, I emphasize professional boundaries around time and preparation:
Please arrive on time and prepared with relevant cases, questions, and follow‑up items
Supervisees will be responsible for the organization of materials (i.e. through a shared Google Drive or other format), including:
Agendas
Hours tracker
Supervision logs
Session resources and reference documents
Cancellation Policy:
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel a session, except in cases of illness or emergency. I hold myself to the same standard.
If you are interested in exploring supervision, please complete the form below to get the process started. This allows us to connect, review your supervision needs, and determine whether working together would be a good fit. A thoughtful interview process helps ensure mutual alignment, clarify expectations, and confirm that all key requirements are in place before entering into a supervision agreement. If it feels like a suitable match, we will then move forward with booking an interview.
