Karelia Gamache

Canadian Certified Counsellor

Hello! My name is Karelia Gamache, and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.). I have undergraduate training in psychology (B.Psych), a Master of Counselling (M.C.), and several years of training in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Over the past decade, I have had the honor and privilege of walking alongside children (age 5+), youth, and families in their healing journeys. I have supported individuals and families in identifying, developing, and strengthening their unique gifts and potentials, as well as their connection with one another, so they are better equipped at facing, and rising above, the challenges life throws their way.

Throughout the years, I have worked in many different roles, such as supporting individuals (children- 4+, youth, adults) as well as couples and families, navigating mental/physical disabilities, mental health concerns (anxiety/depression), neurodivergence (ADHD/autism), parenting (behavioral/school issues/conflict), family conflict, violence (domestic, bullying, abuse), and trauma (childhood/relationship/accidents/grief and loss).

I view our work together as collaborative and am happy to offer wisdom/guidance/tools when this works/fits for you. I respect and honor where you are at in your healing journey and will tailor my approach to your unique situation and needs.

The approaches I draw from in my work include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) (encourage shifts in thinking/behaviors, explore coping tools)

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (invite awareness of mind/body connection and movement to help encourage the release of trauma in your body).

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) (aim to reduce the intensity of distressing/traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation such as guided eye movements).

Narrative Therapy (see you as separate from your problems, highlight your strengths and values, and support you as you reauthor your life story).

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) (focus on solutions, draw upon your strengths and resources to envision and manifest your desired future).

Response-Based Practice (RBP) (see you as more than just a passive victim, explore ways you have responded to, and resisted, violence and oppression)

Attachment-based Therapy (explore ways to strengthen connections and bonds in relationships, particular within the child/caregiver relationship).

Family Systems (explore family dynamics and patterns to bring light to conflict/problems and identify and establish patterns that bring wellness).

Expressive Therapy (utilize various forms of expression such as art, movement, play, poetry, music, to spark healing and growth).

Play Therapy (integrate various play theory and techniques - Adlerian Play Therapy, Sand Therapy, Psychodynamic Play Therapy, Expressive and Therapeutic Art - to support with healing).
